The Process

How Ready Rooms Works

Browse housing yourself or tell us what you need. Ready Rooms helps connect you with housing options that fit your situation, eligibility, budget, and support needs.

1

Browse Housing

Explore available housing in the Ready Rooms Marketplace and filter by location, housing need, room type, background acceptance, and other important criteria. The Marketplace is only part of the Ready Rooms network — not every available option is listed publicly, and new housing options and availability are added regularly.

Tell Us What You Need

Don't see the right fit? Share your location, budget, room preference, income or funding, background barriers, and support needs. We use that information to help identify housing providers whose requirements may fit your situation.

3

We Help Find the Right Fit

Ready Rooms reviews options across our provider network, considering eligibility, availability, location, affordability, housing type, and support needs. A Marketplace listing may be the right fit, or our team may identify another provider not currently shown publicly.

4

Connect With the Provider

When a potential fit is identified, Ready Rooms helps coordinate next steps with the housing provider — which may include confirming availability, discussing eligibility, arranging a tour or conversation, completing provider-specific screening, and planning for move-in.

Helping Someone Find Housing?

Social workers, discharge planners, case managers, friends, and family can submit a referral. Ready Rooms uses the information provided to search for housing options that may fit the person's circumstances and needs.

The Ready Rooms Standard

Clear Housing Information

We aim to provide useful, accurate information about housing type, eligibility, pricing, availability, and provider requirements.

Appropriate Matching

We use the information you provide to help identify housing that may align with your circumstances, rather than treating every property as a fit for everyone.

Independent Housing Providers

Ready Rooms works with independent housing providers. Each provider maintains its own admissions, screening, house rules, services, and final acceptance decisions.

A Simpler Search

Ready Rooms helps simplify the search and connection process, so housing seekers and referral professionals don't have to navigate every provider on their own.

Frequently asked

Housing, answered.

Who is Ready Rooms?

Ready Rooms is a Texas nonprofit that helps people find transitional and shared housing. We are not a housing provider ourselves - we connect you with safe, affordable housing across our network, and coordinate the community resources (employment, legal, wellness, and benefits support) needed for long-term stability. Ready Rooms also helps people identify home care options. Ready Rooms is headquartered in Houston and serves people statewide.

Who does Ready Rooms serve?

Individuals and families seeking housing, plus the professionals who refer them: hospitals and discharge planners, social workers, case managers, behavioral health providers, veteran service organizations, reentry programs, government agencies, and nonprofits. We work with veterans, seniors, people with disabilities or IDD, people in mental health or substance use recovery, people leaving incarceration, and anyone facing housing instability - evictions, felonies, and limited income accepted.

What makes Ready Rooms different?

We work with situations other programs turn away: evictions, broken leases, criminal history, and limited income. One submission replaces a dozen phone calls - tell us once, and Ready Rooms searches the network for you. We also support you beyond move-in day with employment support, benefits navigation, wellness programming, and legal advocacy, so finding housing leads to lasting stability, not just a temporary bed.

What types of housing can Ready Rooms help me find?

Transitional housing, shared housing, independent living, recovery and sober living housing, reentry housing, assisted living, and mental health housing, depending on what's available and what fits your situation. Tell us what you're looking for and we'll review current options across our provider network.

Can you help if I have bad credit or a prior eviction?

Often, yes. Different housing providers have different requirements, and many work with people who have credit issues, broken leases, or a prior eviction. Tell us honestly - it helps us avoid sending you options that aren't a good fit.

Can you help someone with a criminal background?

In many cases, yes. Some housing providers have restrictions based on the type or timing of an offense, but others don't. Tell us about your situation and we'll look for options that are realistic for you.

How much does housing cost?

Cost varies by provider and housing type. Tell us your budget and funding source (income, benefits, SSI/SSDI, VA, Medicaid, or private pay) and we'll look for options that fit.

How quickly will I hear back?

Submissions during business hours typically get a same-day review, with a target window of 48 to 72 hours to be matched with a housing option once your information is complete. Timelines can vary based on provider availability.

Does submitting guarantee I'll receive housing?

No. Submitting your information starts our review, but availability, provider requirements, and funding all affect whether a match is possible. We'll follow up either way.

What kind of help can someone receive at home?

Non-medical support like bathing and dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, companionship, mobility assistance, transportation and errands, medication reminders, respite for family caregivers, and overnight support. Ready Rooms does not provide home care directly - we help connect you with home care providers in our network. Learn more about home care →
